Air America
Hat Badges These are found in several forms depending upon the cap or hat they were on:
- Embroidered bullion
- Embroidered thread (we found this on an original baseball cap!)
- Large "Sterling" or "Silver" marked metal with single screw back and one post/pin on each wing
- Small silver metal (unmarked) with single screw back and one post/pin on each wing
- Embroidered in red cotton thread on a green patch (in our example over the CAT patch!)
Copies of the "Air America" winged badge have been around for years - if it doesn't match one of these it's probably not real. Recently silver and gold pot-metal copies with the proper single post back have shown up on the market. You can tell these copies by their quality and by the fact that the round "nut" does not fit the post very well. The originals are quite snug and of very good quality. Original cap badges were sterling silver. See Reproduction Items for more information on cap badges.
