Air America
Special ProjectsAerial survey or photo missions were flown by Air America personnel in a modified turboprop Twin Beech, referred
to as the VTB or Volpar.
The photo project was assigned to the Special Projects Fixed Wing Department at Air America's Udorn base.
The mission sometimes went into "hot" areas up in the Northeastern Laos. When high covered was required
mission call sign was VIKING. This patch was designed by mission participants and shows both the VTB
and the Viking call sign. The patches were never worn on mission.
